On 7th October 2024, twenty students of Lucknow Public College of Professional Studies, Gomti Nagar, participated in a community outreach activity to promote eco-friendly alternatives to plastic. Under the guidance of their NSS Programme Coordinators, the volunteers visited various shops, street vendors and establishments located in the vicinity of the college. During the visit, students distributed handmade paper carry bags to shopkeepers and requested them to minimise the use of single-use plastic bags.
The NSS team also interacted with customers at the shops and explained the harmful effects of plastic on soil, water, animals and human health. Through placards with messages such as “Say No to Plastic” and “Let’s Keep Our City Clean and Green”, the students appealed to the public to adopt sustainable practices. Shopkeepers appreciated the initiative and assured that they would encourage customers to use paper or cloth bags instead of plastic.
The activity strengthened the social responsibility and communication skills of the participating students while spreading the message of environmental conservation in the neighborhood. The drive aligned with the objectives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the NSS motto of “Not Me, But You”.
